Social Media Stats

Ever wonder if there's an ROI impact with social media? I came across some interesting statistics that provide some insights into ROI for your social media efforts.

According to "Establish KPI Dashboard", a closer look was taken at Bud Light's Facebook page and it's impact on the Bud Light brand. Per household, Bud Light fans on Facebook spend $57.06 per year, which is 35% more than non-fans. Long-term fans, which encompasses users who have been fans for 1 year or longer, on average spend 39% more than non-fans. Looks like there is some benefit to businesses by having a Facebook page!

Additionally, I cam across another interesting stat for social media that doesn't necessarily provide ROI, but is still insightful. According to a survey by InSites Consulting, 61% of US companies listen to consumer conversations on social media, and 83% respond to questions and complaints via social media.

How is this relevant to local businesses? The trend is growing in how companies, both big and small, communicate with their customers. By maintaining a Facebook page, your business can better serve your customers by keeping a pulse on what the customer is looking for and handling complaints. Your customers are going to talk regardless, so you might as well be apart of the conversation!

Getting Social Timing Right

Getting social timing right can be tricky, especially knowing that timing can potentially maximize or minimize the attention your post gets. I found some fascinating statistics that show which days of the week, times of the day, and even how frequently to post to maximize your content's exposure.

Facebook Timing
Best Day to Share: Saturday (the most sharing is done on Saturdays)
Best Time of the Day to Share: Noon (Facebook shares tend to spike around noon and a little after 7pm)
Best Sharing Frequency: 0.5 posts per day (or 1 post every 2 days)

Twitter Timing
Best Time of Day to Tweet: 5pm (This is based on re-tweets. About 6% of all re-tweets, which is the highest percentage, occur around 5pm.)
Best Tweeting Frequency: 1 to 4 per hour (seems like a lot of tweeting, but apparently this frequency fared the best in the study!)
Best Days to Tweet: Midweek and weekends
Best Time to Tweet: Noon and 6pm (This is based on Twitter Click-Through-Rates (CTR) by the Hour. CTR spikes occur around noon - lunch hour - and 6pm - home from work.)

Timing and Email Marketing
Open Rates by Day: Highest during weekend
Open Rates by Hour: Early morning
CTR by Day: Highest during weekend
CTR by Hour: Highest in early morning
Best Sending Frequency: 1 to 4 per month
Effect of Subscriber Recency on Unsubscribe Rate: Less than 10 days (The highest unsubscription rate occurs among those who have been subscribers for less than 10 days.)

Latest Project for Lawyer in Brenham (Part 2)

As I'm working on a website for The Gerke Law Firm, I want to share more about this law firm. Social media within the legal system is undoubtedly a new horizon for lawyers to learn how to properly utilize, which makes Chad's knowledge and experience on this subject that much more valuable!

Social Media Tips for Businesses (Part 2)

I wrote about social media tips for businesses a couple of weeks ago, and wanted to include some more ideas! Again, these tips are from a beer brief on social media within the beer industry, but I will keep this general and how social media can be used among all businesses.

First off, there are many 3rd party applications out there for posting to multiple social media platforms, such as HootSuite and TweetDeck. However, think twice about using these because Facebook's algorithm places lower priority on these updates within the newsfeed, and users can opt to hide these updates. While these options sound good in theory since it's a lot to keep up with posting to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., it is best to post directly to each account. If you feel that it is unfeasible to post to all of these accounts, maybe you just keep the accounts that are most successful for your business and disregard the others?? Just a thought.

Tip #2: When all departments are on board with the social media campaign, the company's social media has a much greater opportunity to have valuable social media efforts. This makes sense because if you have insights from various departments/positions at your company, your content will be less predictable and more insightful for your business, which will fare better among social media audiences.

Tip #3: Most successful pages are led by someone who truly wants to be in this position. This also makes sense because enthusiasm (or unenthusiasm) will come across on the page.

Tip #4: Successful social media pages are promoted by adding social media icons to printed materials. Examples of this are adding the icons to the back of trucks, signs outside of offices, flyers for beer tastings and festivals, email signature lines, and employees' business cards. Icons can also be included on websites, such as this beer distributor's website.

Latest Project for Attorney in Brenham

Social Media Tips for Businesses

I just read an interesting briefing on social media based on a project by MBA students surveying social media within the beer industry, and thought I would share some of the highlights!

First off, social media is not a synonym for website - a website is a source of information for customers and employees and a Facebook page is a compliment to a company's website. Many people nowadays who are deciding between starting a Facebook page or a website or both, go with only a Facebook page, but it's best practice to start with a website, and then add on a Facebook page if you're so inclined to start with just one.

Secondly, recommended time allocated to social media per week is 10-15 hours/week. This includes 2 hours for researching for post content, 2-3 hours promoting social media accounts, 2-3 hours tracking social media efforts, and 24/7 of regular updates and posts. Keep in mind that this means it works well if the lead social media person handles this part-time and not full-time! Many people think that it's all or nothing for social media, but just a few hours a day can go a long way.

How often should content be posted? Ideally every day. Facebook experts recommend that companies should post every time their most recent post drops out of their fans' newsfeeds, which on average occurs within 23 hours.
